The second day, we proceeded to visit the typical houses of Santana, in the North of the island. After this visit, we had planned a hiking route around Levadas dos Balcoes, an activity that was impossible to carry out due to the intense rain of that day.
After lunch, we visited in different groups the different centres of the association Garota do Calhau.
Group 1 ” Blue House” in this center we carried out activities with elderly people in disadvantaged situations. Our students participated in different popular games such as Visca and dominoes with the residents.
Group 2 went to Várzea where they danced and sang along with the elderly of the day centre.
Group 3 went to Murteira over there students and teachers participated in games such as the chair or dominoes. In addition, we contributed to a charitable cause with the purchase of solidarity T-shirts.
The three groups visited the facilities and enjoyed a snack provided by the Association.
On April 29, the European Day of solidarity between generations is celebrated. With our project we also want: to favor relationships between young and old; to get our elders to feel accompanied and listened to, while young people learn values and experiences during visits.
